Thoughts from a Prayer Closet - Faith like Noah
Starting a closet company has been nothing short of a transformative journey. Leaving behind stable jobs, close friends, and family was undoubtedly challenging, but we felt a clear calling to Summerville, and shortly after, Calvary Closets was born. This step required unwavering faith in the Lord, trusting that He would provide and guide us according to His perfect plan. Our ultimate goal has always been to follow His will and bring glory to Him. Reflecting on this experience reminds me of other moments in my life, particularly with my son, Noah, where tremendous faith was also essential.
When I discovered I was pregnant with my second child, Noah, it was a moment of pure joy. This joy came after the heartbreak of two prior miscarriages—one early in pregnancy and another at just over 12 weeks. During the second miscarriage, my water unexpectedly broke, and my baby’s blood somehow interacted with mine. Unbeknownst to us at the time, this would create complications when I became pregnant with Noah, as my body began to fight the pregnancy.
As my gynecologist monitored my bloodwork throughout the pregnancy, alarming signs began to emerge. I experienced frequent fatigue, and my blood tests revealed unhealthy elevations. Due to the concerning results, a high-risk specialist was brought in to evaluate my condition. The specialist expressed grave concerns for my health and strongly recommended terminating the pregnancy. However, I firmly refused. The doctors also noted that Noah’s development was not progressing as expected and cautioned that he might face significant challenges if born. Despite this, I trusted God completely and assured the medical team that Noah would be fine.
Throughout the pregnancy, the doctors were amazed by the stability of my condition. Although my blood levels remained elevated, they never worsened, defying medical expectations. I knew God’s hand was upon both me and Noah. I felt a profound conviction in my heart to continue trusting Him, believing that He would guide us through safely.
On January 28, 2016, Noah was born healthy, handsome, and full of energy. After his birth, my blood levels returned to normal, and I recovered fully. This experience taught me that God sometimes calls us to walk paths that seem impossible, unconventional, or even daunting. The question is whether we will have the faith to follow Him.
This journey reminds me of the biblical story of Noah, who obeyed God’s command to build an ark during a time when sin was rampant on the earth. God warned Noah of an impending flood to cleanse the earth of mankind’s corrupt ways and gave him detailed instructions for building the ark. Despite the disbelief and mockery of those around him, Noah displayed unwavering faith and obedience. Genesis 7:5 affirms, “And Noah did according to all that the LORD commanded him.”
Because of his faith, Noah, his family, and pairs of every kind of animal were saved from the flood. Genesis 6:9 describes Noah as righteous, blameless, and one who walked with God. God said to him, “Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation” (Genesis 7:1).
The story of Noah serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of trusting God during challenging times. Just as the ark sheltered Noah and his family through the storm, our faith in God—El Shaddai, God Almighty—can sustain and carry us through life’s adversities. When we place our trust in Him as our Lord and Savior and maintain a personal relationship with Him through prayer and reading His Word, God provides the strength, guidance, and protection we need to overcome even the greatest trials.
