Thoughts from a Prayer Closet: Concentrate & Eliminate
When our drawers and closets are overflowing with clothes, it's a clear sign that it's time for a change. This indicates that we need to focus on the essentials and purge the items we don't really need. The same principle applies to our personal lives. If we wish to please God, we should remove anything that clutters our lives or hinders our walk with the Lord. We should also remove things from our lives that are not pleasing to Him.
Think about how difficult it is to find something in an overstuffed closet. Clutter wastes our time, as we have to push back hangers and sift through the mess. But once the clutter is gone, it becomes easy to find what we need. When we let too many things crowd our lives and steal our time, we often miss out on what we should truly be doing.
As you work to unclutter your life, keep your focus on Jesus. Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." In the Bible, Paul advises us to abandon the pursuit of personal pleasure—to stop living like everyone else. Instead, he encourages us to be transformed from the inside out. He specifically writes that we must change the way we think and renew our minds so we can understand God's will for our lives. 1 Peter 1:14 says, "As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in ignorance." Christians and the world should not be alike.Instead, we should pattern our lives after the Lord, walk with Him, and not follow the principles of this world.
